The Commissioning Process

  • Step 1 - Laying the Groundwork

The beginning stage involves the most collaboration. I’ve simplified the process by creating a handy questionnaire that takes you through the details I need to create a piece you’ll treasure. Everything from style to deadline to the personality of the subject. Click below to start the process!

  • Step 2 - Pricing

Once I’ve reviewed the questionnaire, I can discuss the cost more precisely. As you might imagine, a single bust is the lowest priced and adding other figures or complex backgrounds add to the value. I’ll ask for one quarter, non-refundable, to start and the remaining three quarters when complete to your satisfaction and mine, with opportunities to evaluate the portrait while it’s in progress.

Payments can be made via Paypal or Zelle. I can walk you through the purchasing process.

  • Step 3 - Reference Material

If you are local to Savannah, Georgia (or willing to travel), we can meet up to take photos of the subject in-person!

It’s rare for a subject to actually sit for a painting, since this takes many hours, but occasionally, at the photo session, I’ll spend several hours painting live with the model as part of getting to know my subject.

If travel is not an option, you can send me photos digitally. The key to success taking a large number of good photographs that we can sort through together to find three or four that best work to capture the sitter.

  • Step 4 - You Get the Finished Piece!

Shipping costs will be calculated based on the size and weight of the piece. Once tax and shipping have been added to the invoice and the final payment has gone through, I will securely package your commission and mail it to you!
